Some Irony...

I don't know if this first subject is technically ironic, but I bought myself some flowers yesterday - I went to the store to get a few things for Huston's birthday goodies and saw these...

I couldn't resist them, they are so pretty and bright and shouted springtime to me so I bought them for myself - which is really one of the few ways I would ever receive flowers. Steven never buys them for me, Steven never buys anything for me - he doesn't believe in gift giving...sometimes that's more of an issue for me than other times, depends on my hormone level probably. He might buy me flowers for my funeral, but then again I can totally picture myself on my death bed making a call to the florist to order a nice arrangement for myself. Who knows. The only time I get flowers is on special occasions, like mothers day, giving birth and my birthday - and 9 out of the 10 whole times I've gotten them ;-) they have come from my mother-in-law! Isn't that funny, the member of the family that society says I'm supposed to have a troubled relationship with is the one that buys me flowers.

Ironic story #2 - Tonight Huston wanted to watch me give Lillie a bath - he wanted to watch her get a bath the last time I gave her one too. Why is this ironic? Cause the whole time I am giving her the bath, she of course is screaming her head off like all newborns do - and what is Huston doing? He is saying, "It's ok, Lillie. It's just a little bath, you'll be alright." These words are coming from the other child in the family who hates baths. On bath nights, you will usually find Huston standing in the tub screaming his head off. (Yes, he is the one that turned 4 yesterday) He hates to see dirt floating in the water, so to avoid this issue we have him stand and just run the faucet and do a quick wash and rinse, cause the shower brings out even more terror. You would think that this might solve the phobia, but he also hates to have water poured on him in any shape or form. This cannot be avoided unless they invent dry cleaning for children. He hasn't always been this way, it's a recent phase. But how ironic that it is he that is the one who chooses to comfort Lillie during her bath time. He must feel a strong bond with this little gal who hates her bath as much as he hates his.

Beautiful flowers, even if you did buy them yourself. And it's probably good therapy for whatever Huston's issue is with bathing right now to help out with Lillie's baths. Maybe it'll be the breakthrough!

maybe a breakthrough is just around the corner - especially when Lillie gets to the stage that bath time is not such a trauma
